    Notes 
    • "Hope, born July 15, 1671, married Nov. 15, 1696, Elizabeth Lathrop, who was born in Barnstable, Nov. 15, 1677, a daughter of Melatiah Lothrop, No. 19. They settled first in Barnstable where he is enrolled among the townsmen in 1695, and where the oldest of their children were born. He subsequently removed to Falmouth, Mass., and still later to Connecticut. He purchased 150 acres of land in Tolland, in 1726, of Daniel Eaton. The deed identifies him as from Falmouth in the county of Barnstable, in his Majesty's province of Massachusetts Bay. Waldo, in his 'Tolland,' reports the tradition that he was brother instead of father to John, also then resident in Tolland. How early he removed with his family, if indeed as a family they ever came to Connecticut, we have no date to show. The tradition is that they resided for years in Hartford, and also that for a time at least they lived in Sharon, Conn. He died Oct. 29, 1736, and she died Feb. 21, 1763." [11]
